Grene Prize
The Grene Prize is given each year, or when appropriate, to one or more graduating students in the Philosophy MA program at Virginia Tech who best demonstrate engagement with philosophy and commitment to service. The prize is the namesake of Marjorie Grene (1911-2009), a former Honorary University Distinguished Professor at Virginia Tech. Grene helped shape the field of philosophy of biology and made important contributions to other fields as well, including early modern philosophy, epistemology, and philosophy of mind. If you’d like to know more about Grene, we recommend the collection The Philosophy of Marjorie Grene from the Library of Living Philosophers. Grene was the first woman to be chosen for this prestigious series.
