To apply to the graduate program, students must submit the Virginia Tech Graduate School online application.

Current and Admitted Students at Virginia Tech

Applications for the Graduate Certificate in Social, Political, Ethical and Cultural Thought will be considered from non‐degree post‐baccalaureate students who have been permitted to take courses by the Graduate School.  This includes Master's, professional and/or Ph.D. graduate students accepted in ASPECT or other programs at Virginia Tech who seek to enhance their training in interdisciplinary thought, methodology, and theory.  Students previously admitted by the Graduate School or accepted as graduate students in a cognate program will submit to the director a statement of purpose and at least one letter of recommendation.

Applicants New to Virginia Tech

Recommendations for admission to the certificate program for nondegree-seeking students will be made by our Graduate Admissions Committee, based on transcripts, the letter of interest, and the minimal requirements specified in the Graduate Catalogue. These admissions criteria differ from our regular degree admissions in that they require neither the GRE nor letters of recommendation.

You will need the following to apply:

Official Transcripts

Include a scanned copy of your college transcripts with your online application, then arrange for an official copy to be sent to us after you receive an offer of admission.

At least one letter of recommendation is required for Alliance for Social, Political, Ethical, and Cultural Thought Graduate Certificate. You can include references/recommedations email addresses in your online application, or have them send paper copies directly to department.
