Family and Consumer Sciences is a multidisciplinary program designed to prepare graduates to teach and support students, families, and communities as they make critical decisions about their well-being, relationships, and use of resources.

Career and Technical Education
A family and consumer science teacher provides educational instruction, support, management, and leadership to facilitate success for all students. They often advise their school’s FCCLA chapter while fostering student leadership through career related competitions. Working with local businesses and in school laboratories, they also provide supervised experience in culinary arts kitchens, fashion design studios, early childhood education centers, and so much more. Established as a land-grant institution, Virginia Tech has a long history of excellence in both family and consumer science studies and teacher education. Students of Virginia Tech’s Career and Technical Education program are prepared for successful licensure in the state of Virginia in in Career and Technical Education (Grades 6-12) in each of the specialized fields of Business Information Technology, Family and Consumer Science, and Marketing Education and enjoy nearly 100% job placement in thes highly sought-after fields of study.
