Timothy Miles, a religion and culture major, was named the 2019 Outstanding Senior in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences.

A student in the Honors College, Miles completed an undergraduate thesis that focused on the intersection of Christianity and sexuality in Appalachia.

He also served as a research assistant on two projects with Aaron Ansell, an associate professor in the Department of Religion and Culture, and as a peer mentor in an introductory class taught by Ansell.

Miles also provided assistance in other roles such as peer counselor for University Scholarships and Financial Aid, learning assistant and student-athlete tutor in Student Athlete Academic Support Services, and office assistant in the Department of Religion and Culture.

Active in various extracurricular activities, Miles also organized the 2019 Arabic Poetry Initiative and taught tap dancing at a local dance studio.

In the summer of 2018, he participated in the VT Arabic in Oman summer program. This experience abroad and his other studies have prepared him well for his immediate postgraduate plans: a two-year stint with the Peace Corps as a youth-in-development specialist in Morocco.
