We have a strong research faculty filled with award-winning teachers. They have built a reputation among students for being approachable and engaging. Our large and growing research portfolio covers everything from popular culture to religious studies.
Internships provide students with real-world experience, making them more competitive in the job market after graduation. Along with other independent internship opportunities, our students participate in Oxfam CHANGE, a year-long social justice program.

In addition to scholarships offered by the university and the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, we offer the Hobbie Scholarship and the McCombs Scholarship for religion and culture students.
Working one-on-one with our faculty or in research groups, our students complete independent research, publish their work, and present at conferences, including our undergraduate research day.
Studying abroad offers you an extraordinary learning experience. Our trips vary by year; you can also participate in university sponsored study abroad opportunities that complement your program of study.

We host a variety of events including film series at the Lyric, guest speakers, and socials. You can also get involved in the Theta Alpha Kappa, national honor society for religious studies and theology.
The Guy B. Hammond Lectureship in Religious Ethics and Society is an endowed lectureship in honor of long-time Virginia Tech Professor in Philosophy and Religion, Guy B. Hammond. The lectureship invites cutting-edge researchers and thinkers in religious ethics to a multi-day event in which the invitee workshops with students, faculty, and delivers a public address.
