Yannis A. Stivachtis is Professor of European Studies at the Department of Political Science and holder of the Jean Monnet Chair at Virginia Tech. He also serves as Director of the Center for European Union, Transatlantic and Trans-European Space Studies (CEUTTSS), which is designated by the European Commission as a Jean Monnet Center of Excellence.

Dr. Stivachtis' research and teaching interests include the European Union’s strategy; EU-great powers relations and world order; Common Foreign & Security Policy (CFSP), Common Security & Defense Policy (CSDP), Enlargement, and European Neighborhood Policy (ENP); European and transatlantic organizations; European security, the evolution of international society; and the study of regional international system/society in Europe, Eurasia, and the Middle East.

Dr. Stivachtis has published numerous journal articles and book chapters, as well as several books. He has also presented at several national and international conferences and has given invited talks at the London School of Economics, the Bundeswehr University-Munich, the Pontifican Catholic University of Minas in Brazil, The Patterson School of Diplomacy and International Commerce at the University of Kentucky, the University of Virginia, Kent State University, the University of Alabama-Birmingham, and the University of Central Missouri.

Dr. Stivachtis is currently the editor of the Critical European Studies book series (Routledge) and co-editor of the Athens Journal for Mediterranean Studies. His current service includes External Expert for the Research Executive Agency (REA) of the European Commission; Senior Advisor of the Center for European & Mediterranean Affairs (CEMA) of the Athens Institute for Education & research (ATINER); Senior Advisor of the Research Institute for European and American Studies (RIEAS); and Advisory Board member of the Center for Intelligence and Security Studies, Bellevue University.
