Desirée Poets

Dr. Poets examines questions of development, peace, and security in Latin America, from community to world-systemic levels of analysis. She is currently developing a comparative research project on strategic/ military autonomy in Latin America, and is open to expressions of interest for research asssistantships. The project measures the extent of Latin American strategic autonomy in the context of shifting global power configurations, including a potential decline of U.S. hegemony and rising influence of China and Russia, globally and in Latin America. In the long term, the project plans to extend this analysis globally and to develop a global strategic/ military autonomy index. Students can get involved with quantitative or qualitative research.
