Sports Media and Analytics Concentration

Our sports media and analytics degree option prepares you for careers in sports communication and broadcast performance. While studying sports journalism and broadcasting, you will have the opportunity to take advantage of our digital broadcast studio, newsroom, and media lab. Experience learning in real-world environments through extensive field work while building your network.

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT - Monica Becerra, '19

The sports media and analytics concentration prepared Monica to pursue a career in the sports industry through hands on experience. As a strategic communication intern with Virginia Tech Athletics, she works behind the scenes on  game days, with the wrestling team, and in the office with professionals in the field. She also served as a marketing intern for the Washington Redskins. Monica states, “These experiences are possible because of the knowledge and skills from my classes and professors in the program who have helped prepare me for a job in the sports industry.” 

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT - Trey Lyle, '19

Trey jumped at the chance to pursue the sports media and analytics concentration, combining his love of communication and sports.  His participation in the National Sports Media Association student chapter at Virginia Tech, Virginia Tech Television (VTTV) and WUVT have allowed him to put the knowledge from his classes to work. Trey works on campus with Virginia Tech Athletics in their Strategic Communication department. These hands on opportunities prepared him for an internship with ESPN Richmond.
