United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) Student Chapter at Virginia Tech

The student chapter is made up of students (graduate and undergraduate) who have a passion for the Design/Tech side of the theatre and entertainment industry. These chapters work to promote learning among their peers and to support design and technology on campus.

USITT has been around since 1960, it was organized to promote dialogue, research, and learning among practitioners of theatre design and technology.  Today it has grown to include members at all levels of their careers and has embraced the new technologies being used in entertainment.  USITT is now the leader in life-long learning opportunities for the entertainment design and technology industry.

For more information about how to get involved, contact faculty advisors, Jane Stein or Chris Russo.

Film festival

Progeny Film Festival

This Festival showcases the best of Virginia Tech student films representing a variety of genres and film styles. Since 2003, Progeny has drawn audiences every spring to the Lyric Theatre for entertainment and exploration of creative student work. Each year, a two-hour program of the best submitted films is put together by Progeny Alumni. The screening is immediately followed by an awards ceremony led by a faculty committee who select the winners, and the audience votes for Favorite Film. For more information about how you can get involved, contact faculty advisor Charles Dye.

Study Abroad

We encourage you to study abroad for an extraordinary experience away from campus. Programs are available across the world for you to travel for a week, a winter, a summer, a semester, or even for a year - all while working toward graduation. Earn academic credit while you're away through faculty-led programs, enrollment in a bi-lateral exchange program, or direct enrollment in programs across the world. See your advisor to learn more about upcoming study abroad programs and check out what is available from the Global Education Office.
