Expressing Appreciation for Your Scholarship

Thank your scholarship donor by writing a thoughtful letter that shares your appreciation and the impact their generosity has on your Virginia Tech experience.

Include:

  • A sincere thank you for the scholarship
  • A few details about yourself
  • How the scholarship will support your education
  • A closing expression of gratitude

Avoid:

  • Asking for additional financial support
  • Sharing overly personal information

Tell Your Story

Help your donor get to know you by sharing a few details:

  • Where you're from
  • Your year at Virginia Tech
  • Your major
  • Why you chose your major
  • Your goals while at Virginia Tech
  • Campus organizations or activities
  • Your career goals after graduation

Explain the Impact

Describe what receiving the scholarship means to you.

Consider answering questions like:

  • How has this scholarship helped you?
  • What opportunities has it made possible?
  • How will it support your future goals?

End with Thanks

Close your letter by expressing your appreciation once more for the donor's generosity.

Be Thankful

Your donor chose to invest in Virginia Tech students. A sincere thank-you lets them know their gift matters.

Be Genuine

Write like you're speaking to a real person who wants students to succeed.

Be Professional

Proofread your letter for spelling and grammar. Include:

  • Date
  • Proper greeting
