Scholarships for Prospective First-Year and Transfer Students
We're excited that you're considering Virginia Tech and a major in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences! You do not need to wait for an admission decision before applying for scholarships.
Apply Early
Incoming students should not wait for an admission decision to apply for scholarships. Once you gain access to your Virginia Tech Applicant Portal, complete the Virginia Tech General Application to be considered for scholarship opportunities.
If you are selected to receive a scholarship, your award will be included with your initial financial aid offer.
Good news: Many College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences scholarships are awarded through automatic consideration, meaning no additional application is required beyond the Virginia Tech General Scholarship Application.
FAFSA
Students are strongly encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) using Virginia Tech's school code 003754.
Completing the FAFSA allows you to be considered for the widest range of scholarships, grants, and other financial aid opportunities. Students who choose not to submit a FAFSA will still be considered for select non-need-based college and departmental scholarships, including merit-based awards.

How to Apply
- Apply for admission to Virginia Tech.
- Access your Virginia Tech Applicant Portal.
- Complete the Virginia Tech General Scholarship Application.
- Submit the FAFSA (school code 003754) to maximize scholarship consideration.
- Optional: Complete any additional apply-to scholarship applications.
Complete the FAFSA and VT General Scholarship Application by January 22 for maximum financial aid and scholarship consideration.
Scholarship awards will be included with your initial financial aid offer.
Undergraduate Scholarships and Awards
Presidential Campus Enrichment Grant is a competitive scholarship program that is awarded based on an essay question related to your personal values, beliefs and activities regarding multiculturalism and diversity. Complete the general scholarship application and FAFSA by the priority deadline. This award is renewable for eight semesters.
Presidential Scholarship Initiative (PSI) is a competitive scholarship program designed to offset the costs of college for in-state Virginia high school students with significant financial need. This scholarship ensures that full tuition, fees, and room and board are covered. Please note: No application or recommendation letter is necessary for the PSI, but the FAFSA must be completed by the priority deadline.
Applicants to the university are automatically considered for the Honors College and any available scholarships based on their undergraduate admissions application; there is no separate Honors College application. For more information, please visit the Honors College website or call 540-231-4591.
Athletic scholarships are offered by the head coaches of Virginia Tech’s collegiate teams as well as noncompetitive participation (i.e. videographers, trainers) and are awarded on the basis of athletic ability and academic eligibility.
Students interested in military scholarships may be required to complete a FAFSA as part of the application process.

Some of the college and/or department scholarships opportunities are available for transfer students and may require to file the FAFSA by the priority deadline.
The Two-Year College Transfer Grant is administered by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) to provide financial assistance to students who receive an associate's degree at a Virginia 2-year public institution.
