Education Abroad Scholarships
The College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences awards scholarships each semester to support undergraduate students participating in education abroad programs. Awards typically range from $250-$2000.
Students only need to complete one scholarship application to be considered for all eligible CLAHS education abroad awards, including department-specific abroad awards.
Current students: Complete the CLAHS Study Abroad Scholarship application in Scholarship Central by the review deadline below applicable to your experience.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be an undergraduate in good academic standing
- Must have a primary or secondary major in CLAHS (minors alone do not qualify)
- For some departmental scholarship opportunities included in this application, students with a CLAHS minor may be considered
- Must be participating in a credit-bearing international experience*
*Some CLAHS education abroad scholarships - such as those offered through the Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures - have additional eligibility criteria.
Be sure to complete all application questions that are relevant to the scholarships you may qualify for. Your responses help ensure full consideration. Check back soon to review the list of available scholarships and eligibility criteria here. We recommend reading through the list before submitting your application.
Before beginning your application, have the following ready:
- Unofficial transcript
- Estimated expenses for your program (tuition, airfare, housing, etc.)
- Details of your study abroad program
- Number of credits and courses you'll take abroad
- Response to the following question: Explain why you are pursuing this study abroad opportunity, what you hope to gain/how it will enhance your Virginia Tech experience, and how it fits into your academic and career goals. Include how experiencing a different culture and language immersion benefits your education and future work.
Application Timeline
Round 1 Deadline: October 26, 2026
Completed applications must be submitted for Winter 2026, Spring 2027, and Summer 2027 experiences.
Round 2 Deadline: March 5, 2027
Completed applications must be submitted for Summer 2027 and Fall 2027 experiences.
