Heather Hollandsworth

Heather has held a variety of roles in higher education, including teaching English and directing a First-Year Experience program at a prior institution. Additionally, she has developed programming to support students on academic probation. Heather joined Virginia Tech advising in 2024.

Heather approaches advising with the goal of helping students navigate the university, advocate for themselves, and make their path a little smoother. She uses an appreciative advising approach that focuses on students’ strengths while helping them develop plans that align with their goals. One of the most rewarding parts of her work is seeing students grow and reach their full potential during their time at Virginia Tech.

Outside of work, Heather enjoys reading, watching television, and spending time with animals—especially Charlie, who occasionally visits her office. She also likes to imagine what it would be like to compete on American Idol.
