Curriculum

What You'll Study

This minor offers two foundational tracks—one tailored for STEM majors looking to refine their communication skills, and another for non-STEM majors seeking a stronger foundation in scientific reasoning and quantitative analysis. Coursework includes Science Writing, Introduction to Applied Collaborative Techniques, and a capstone experience, ensuring students gain both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience.

Students will explore strategies for identifying and debunking misinformation, analyzing the role of science in society, and effectively translating technical content for diverse audiences. Through elective courses in areas such as philosophy, statistics, and science, technology, and society, students can customize their learning experience to align with their interests and career goals. Additionally, they will have access to the VT Center for Communicating Science programs, previously reserved for graduate students, further enhancing their ability to communicate scientific ideas with clarity and impact.
